The Element Within
So, I hear you asking: what is Zi Wei Dou Shu? Let me introduce you to a layered tradition within Chinese astrology, often translated as Purple Star Astrology. If you are familiar with Feng Shui or BaZi, it offers another way to reflect on the patterns and questions of your life.
What draws me to this work is the space it creates for understanding. A reading can invite you to notice strengths, familiar responses and the themes you keep returning to. Your choices and lived experience remain central.
A tradition, and my approach to it
Zi Wei Dou Shu belongs to a Chinese astrological and divinatory tradition. Its language draws on stars, palaces and the relationship between Heaven and human life. Stories of its origins and imperial associations form part of how it is often introduced, but I do not treat every traditional account as an established historical fact.
In my practice, I use Zi Wei Dou Shu as a tool for reflection and perspective rather than fixed predictions. I am interested in how a reading helps you ask useful questions and recognise possibilities, without suggesting that your future has already been decided.
When I speak about timing or life patterns, I am describing an interpretation within this tradition. A chart is not a guarantee of events or a substitute for your judgement.
The twelve life palaces
A Zi Wei Dou Shu chart organises its interpretation around twelve life palaces. Each relates to a different part of human experience. The symbolic stars placed within the chart are read together, rather than as isolated labels.
The examples below give a sense of the themes a reading may explore. They are six examples within the twelve-palace system, not a complete list or a chart layout.

A theme does not tell the whole story on its own. A personal reading looks at relationships within the chart and brings them into conversation with your own circumstances. Two people asking about work, for example, may be seeking very different kinds of clarity.
How it differs from BaZi
Zi Wei Dou Shu and BaZi, the Four Pillars, are different systems within Chinese astrology. Zi Wei Dou Shu uses a lunar-calendar-based framework of palaces and symbolic stars, while BaZi explores the stems, branches and Five Elements of the Four Pillars.
Both require careful handling of birth details and the conventions used to construct a chart. Neither should be reduced to a quick label about who you are. If you are unsure which approach would suit your question, I can help you consider the options.
Bring a question that matters to you
You do not need to arrive with the perfect question. Often, a reading begins with a feeling that something is changing, or a wish to understand a familiar pattern more clearly. You might want to reflect on:

- What feels meaningful in your work and the direction you want to take.
- How to make space for a different response to a recurring situation.

For me, the value of a reading lies in the conversation it opens. You may find an idea that resonates straight away, or a question you want to sit with for a while. There is room for both.
Zi Wei Dou Shu can become a mirror for reflection: a way to consider how you meet your life, rather than an instruction to surrender your choices. The aim is a clearer sense of yourself and the next step that feels right for you.
